The Domain Name Server takes addresses given in text format (ie: www.glinx.com) and looks up the corresponding numerical address, called an IP address (ie: 142.176.48.100). Without the DNS specified, users are unable to "find" anything on the Internet. | ||||||

1 | Change the DNS Number. Double-click the "My Computer" icon. Double-click the "Control Panel" icon. Double-click the "Network" icon. This will open the Network window. The "Configuration" tab should be in front. If not, click it to bring it forward.In the list of Network Components, you will have either "TCP/IP" or TCP/IP ->Dialup Adapter", double-click on it. This will open the TCP/IP properties window. Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab to bring it forward. In the DNS Server Search Order section, you will see a dotted entry field and box below it. To the right will be two (2) buttons, "Add" and "Remove". If there are any numbers in the bottom box, remove them by clicking on a number, then click the "Remove" button. Do this until all numbers (most likely 142's or 205's) have been removed. Click your mouse once on the far left side of the dotted entry field. Enter the new DNS number, pressing the decimal or period key where shown: 24.222.77.241 Click the "Add" button to add this number. The number will drop into the empty box below.
Click the "OK" button to close the "TCP/IP Properties" window. Click the "OK" button to close the "Network" window. At this time, you will be prompted to restart your computer.
